In light of the blatantly offensive Moana costume that Disney rightfully recalled, I think it’s time to sit down and discuss just a few of the costumes you should avoid at all costs this Halloween to protect everyone’s feelings at your next costume party.
1. A Cop
With all of these shootings going on sparking the #BlackLivesMatter movement, you will want to avoid dressing like a cop this Halloween unless you want to start a riot at your party.
2. A Disney Princess
It doesn’t matter which one. It doesn’t even matter if you dress up as a princess that fits your race. Disney’s princesses offer unrealistic expectations for women. They’re all offensive. Just don’t do it.
3. A Smurf
A Smurf? What is so offensive about a Smurf? Is it not obvious? Chances are you are considerably taller than a Smurf, so dressing up as a Smurf is offensive not only to the Smurfs, who have already been through so much in Smurf Village, but to short people everywhere.
4. The Joker
Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker was offensive and no one wants to be reminded of it.
5. A Box of Cereal
People all over the United States are allergic to various things including sugar, gluten and lactose (aka the ingredients used when making a bowl of cereal). Way to remind those people they can’t enjoy a delicious bowl of cereal the next morning, asshole!
6. A White Shirt With Blue Jeans
You have just taken the leather jacket off of a greaser and you will never be as cool as they were. Go ahead and wear this costume if you want. Just know the spirit of Danny Zuko is judging you.
7. No Costume at All
Wow. Way to ruin the spirit of Halloween. Halloween is about having fun with your friends and dressing up in fun or scary costumes and you are destroying that idea! Learn to live a little and dress up! Just make sure absolutely zero people will take offense by it.
