After coming off of the success of the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ movie adaptation, Blumhouse has announced that they are creating a new, more relatable game adaptation; Wordle.
We sat down with Jason Blumhouse, head of Blumhouse, and asked him what led him to this idea. His response? “Why the fuck not?”
Blumhouse continued, even though he didn’t have to, saying “Gobble gobble gobble, you little video game piggy nerds! You’re gonna eat this shit up whether you like it or not! You’re so mad that we didn’t respect the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ source material? Eat my balls! Wordle has no source material other than words! Go cry to your slut of a mom about it, pussy!”
The movie is set to release anywhere between June of 2024 and October of 2038, but some production details have been publicly announced. So far on the team, we have M. Night Shyamalan directing because according to Blumhouse, “This movie needs a dramatic twist.” When Shyamalan was asked about how he would approach such a broad concept, he said, “My goal is to bring nuance to this concept, specifically the word ‘Audio’. It’s such a prominent word in the game, and I think the audience will be really curious to find out, what does Audio really mean? I, myself, am incredibly eager to find out.”
There have also been rumors circulating that the cast will include the likes of Paul Rudd as the color yellow, which in the game represents that a letter is included in the word, but now in the right place. Some fans of the game think this casting might be racially insensitive and considered yellow face. When asked to comment, the Ant-Man star simply said, “What?” Ryan Gosling has also been rumored to make an appearance as the word Penis, a controversial word in the Wordle community due to its vulgar origins. Fans worry that this casting choice will alienate the older Wordle fandom, but Gosling tells fans to not worry, because “I’ve worked with Greta Gerwig, so I know how to bring a feminist take to a male-dominated concept.”
The soundtrack is set to include music from a wide range of artists, including famed KPop group BTS with an up beat end credits song, Kelly Clarkson with an emotional ballad that will be sung by the word “Loner”, who is rumored to be played by Anya Taylor Joy, and Marilyn Manson who will be doing a screamo cover of the song Dynamite by Taio Cruz in an attempt to connect with fans nostalgic for the early 2000s.
Despite receiving almost no buzz from critics, Wordle fans and moviegoers alike seem enthusiastic about the ambitious project. How could this be possible? One commenter summed it up quite well; “At least James Corden isn’t in it.” There is, however, still plenty of time for James Corden to be added to this project.
