I’ve been praying a lot lately, and I just have to tell you something: God has really put it on my heart to ask you out for coffee this weekend, and then to marry me in six months.
I know we’re friends – “just friends” to use your exact words – but I think you’ll agree that now is the time to move this relationship from the church lobby to a Christian-owned coffee shop. And then, six months from now, to a moderately difficult hiking trail where I will ask you to marry me.
I’m sure you remember the first time we met, right here in this very lobby three months ago. You introduced yourself when you saw me eating a doughnut alone and encouraged me to come back the next Sunday. God has made it clear that this was not because of your role as New Guest Greeter, but rather the beginning of an ordained romance as guided by the Holy Spirit. By coming back to church week after week, the Lord started making changes in my life, specifically my tastes in music, movies, and books to align with yours.
I really don’t know how else to describe it except to call it a miracle.
And when you later suggested that I attend your small group as a “next step?” Well, that’s when I knew things were really heating up.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
The first time I heard the Lord speak to me about asking you out for coffee and then to marry me six months later was when I saw you volunteering at Kids’ Rock Sunday Cool. Besides your love for the Lord, I also find your natural, motherly qualities very attractive. But don’t worry – us having kids is at least fifteen months away. What do you think of Ezekiel for a boy’s name, Ezra for short?
After we decide to become an official couple at Holy Grounds this weekend, the Lord has given me a vision of us going on double dates with Doug and Claire at Applebee’s or Chili’s (your choice). I know that may not sound romantic because we’re 23 and they’re 47. However, their Goldy mentorship will hold us accountable to not succumb to sexual sin – that is until I whisper the entirety of the Song of Solomon into your ear on our wedding night on March 22nd of next year.
I know that a March wedding will only give us a few weeks between me proposing to you in six months and the wedding day, but I figure planning will be a cinch; we can have the ceremony here, and the reception at Applebee’s or Chili’s (your choice). I’m so excited!
Me asking you out for coffee this weekend and then to marry me in six months is definitely God’s plan. Just look around. He has given us a loving group of friends and shared spiritual beliefs, not to mention the same taste in music, movies, and books. Also, I don’t know about you but I am extremely horny. I’m very ready to have sex. With anyone, really. But I would like that person to be you, and I believe God does, too.
Anyway, I don’t want to make us late for service, but I think we should both pray about this. Together. While holding hands with our eyes closed. Join me in going to the Lord in prayer?
