I just started as a new intern at Robot Butt, and my first assignment is to take over the company blog. I’ve been learning a ton about blogging at school, and I can’t wait to start putting this knowledge to use.
It’s still my first week at the company, but everyone has done a great job making me feel right at home, and I can’t believe all the people I’ve already gotten to meet. Just yesterday Rex Forsight came by the cafeteria during lunch, and earlier today I even saw Uncle Kipp walking into the CEO’s office.
Speaking of the CEO, he gave me a personal tour of the offices yesterday! The highlight of the trip had to be when we stopped in the lobby right in front of the giant robot statue by the receptionist’s desk. Let me tell you, they did a great job with it – the statue looks exactly like the company logo.
While we were there the CEO gave me an amazing run down on the history of the company, the logo, the intern program, everything really. I can hardly believe that I get to be part of such a solid American institution. Though I think the CEO may have been pulling my leg a bit with some of the history of the company.
We had stopped in front of the towering robot statue right in the middle of the lobby. The robot has got to be at least 30 feet tall, and it’s surrounded by a beautiful indoor garden and a ring of fountains that shoot water 10 feet in the air. It would be a peaceful place, but there’s something about the robot that’s just a little unsettling. It’s hard to put a finger on exactly what it is, but if I was pushed, I might say that the robot almost has a look of grim determination on it’s face. It’s just not quite as friendly looking as the logo makes it out to be.
As we were looking at the robot statue the CEO tried to tell me some story about how the statue actually came before the logo and not the other way around. He was spinning me some goofy tale about how no one in the office seems to know exactly where the statue came from or who made it. According to him the robot has been in the lobby longer than anyone has been working here, but he’s “damn sure” the thing has been to hell and back.
I’ll admit, he had me going for awhile, especially when he pointed out the weird markings on the robots leg. They do look a little like some sort of writing, but I’ll bet it’s all just part of the act.
Anyhow, it’s been a great first week, and I can’t wait to find out just how much I’ll learn about the publishing industry in my next few months here!
