In the pantheon of baseball walk-up music legends, Oakland Athletics outfielder Josh Reddick has now solidified himself as one of the undisputed greats.
Having recently chosen George Michael’s “Careless Whisper,” Reddick saw an opportunity to immortalize himself in the history of the game and he took it. It’s certainly fitting. The Oakland A’s are the rogues of Major League Baseball, a team that seemingly cheats the system every season, and often does so with facial hair that puts the rest of the league to shame. Making “Careless Whisper” a walk-up song for a player on this team simply makes all the sense in the world.
Reliever Sean Doolittle appreciated Reddick’s bold choice, as did the A’s fans.
“I hope it’s not just a passing phase,’” Doolittle told Inside the A’s. “When it came on, we were all singing it in the bullpen.”
Why hasn’t this become your favorite baseball team yet?
