I Don’t “Get” Reddit

Confession time. After trying really hard – probably more like medium-level hard; like morning-bus-ride-to-9th-grade hard – I admittedly don’t understand Reddit.

I’ve typed in the URL (computer speak for long combinations of letters and numbers that display websites). I’ve scrolled down the screen. I’ve even looked through the little groups at the top – are these “sub-reddits”? It doesn’t make any sense to me.

All the bigwigs at Robot Butt are on my case about it. “Pete, did you get a Reddit account yet?” “Pete, why are you such a moron?” “Pete, can you not open Microsoft Excel, either?”

In my constant attempt to fit in, I even registered for an account. Now when I go to Reddit I see my username in the corner. But then what happens? I click on my username and I get the following:

Now what? It seems like a big, confusing web page that I don’t know how to navigate. I can’t for the life of me understand how people spend hours on this thing. I click on some of the links and it’s just pictures of nouns with words typed over them. Or it’s clips of videos played over and over again. Ever let the menu screen of a DVD play on the TV for a long time to where the 20-second song clip plays over and over and over again? That’s GIFs.

I need a website to already know what I want to see. It needs to pull me in. If not, it’s back to Gmail again (Did I just open Gmail again in a separate tab?).

I’m open to suggestions. Please help me understand what the fuss is all about. I’m not old. I’m not against new things. I like fun and information and learning. Help me.
